Students took a well-deserved break from a pretty intensive day of learning (new skills and concepts were introduced today) to have a little fun...and learn basic Jewish concepts and some math at the same time.
In Jewish Learning Fun is a math-centered game that challenges students to draw upon a wide range of information related to many Judaic concepts.
A typical question may appear like this:
1. Take the number of books of the Torah [5].
2. Add the number of sedarim - orders in the Mishna [6].
3. Multiple by the number of times Moshe received the Torah [2].
4. Subtract the number of avot - forefathers [3].
5. Add the number of shofar blasts in the shevarim [3].
(ANSWER: 22)
Jewish Number Fun helps students practice math skills and rehearse their knowledge of Judaic concepts. It also allows me to conduct formative assessment of student progress. I can conduct "spot" evaluations of student learning, without the students feeling like they are being assessed.
