Bracha Rishona

We've spent a good deal of time learning the various brachot acharona ("after" blessings recited on all foods except bread) and the students are quite diligent about reciting the proper blessing after mealtime.

Now we'll turn our attention to the laws of bracha rishona, the blessings we recite before eating all foods (even bread).

We'll explore the laws from a Mishna perspective (the entire sixth chapter of Mesechet Brachot is devoted to these practical laws) and will follow with hands-on activities to reinforce these good habits.

There's an important value that is associated with the learning: Blessings are a way to express a relationship with God through a show of gratitude. Cultivating this "attitude of gratitude" is truly essential to the life of a religiously sensitive individual. We'll address this issue as part of our curriculum-embedded Band2Band learning.
