Volunteer-In-Chief - Campaign '08!

As part of our Band2Band initiative, and to take advantage of the students' interest in the race for the White House, we announced the campaign for Volunteer-In-Chief. A description follows below:

Job Description
The Volunteer-in-Chief (VIC) is an elected position. The VIC will help to run a project or program that creates volunteer opportunities for his/her fellow students.

Guidelines for the VIC Program or Project
The program or project proposed by the VIC must meet the following guidelines:
· It is realistic
· It creates volunteer opportunities for a large number of students
· It improves our classroom or school
· It requires less than $25 to develop
· It can last for the remainder of the school year

Candidacy
Students who wish to run for the position of VIC must receive 25 signatures from other Akiba students who support their run. Candidates also need 2/3 support from fellow fourth graders (19 votes) to ascertain their character and "readiness" for the job.

Campaigning

Campaign signs will be posted around school. Signs should emphasize the program proposed by the candidate, rather than the candidate himself/herself.

Election

The election will take on Election Day 2008 (November 4th). All candidates on the ballot will receive an opportunity to make a speech prior to voting. Voting will take place by secret ballot. The VIC will be elected by “popular vote.” In the event of a tie, the administrators will decide the winner.
