We tried to "get inside" Avraham's head as we meet the first of our avot for the first time in this week's parsha. Two episodes from Avraham's life - the commandment to leave his birthplace Charan for an unspecified location and his subsequent break from his nephew Lot - illustrate a concept we studied in Cocoa Club: "Keep away from a bad neighbor" (Pirkei Avot 1:7).
In both instances, Avraham must sever his ties to negative influences his life. In class, we read two dramatized excerpts from a fictitious diary that helped students makes these connections to the parsha and to real-life.
