The Bracha Buffet

It's back: The Bracha Buffet, A way for our students to eat their way through our Brachot unit. Look for it next week...

We've covered several topics in our unit, including:
  • bracha rishona and acharona (blessings recited before and after eating foods)
  • mistakes in brachot
  • ikar and tofel (determining the primary food item on which to recite the blessing)
  • how one bracha can be used for multiple food items

In the Bracha Buffet, students are asked to select specific items from a buffet of varying food items and to make a decision about which food to recite the bracha on.

Examples:

1. Choose three foods that receive a bracha rishona of mezonot

2. Choose two items (X and Y). X is the ikar and Y is the tofel. Which one receives the bracha and why?

It's a fabulous activity that's fun and educational.
