Bracha rishona: "All for one"

Don't feel like talking much? You can spare your words and use only one bracha to cover the blessing requirement on multiple food items. Today in Mishna, we learned how.

1. Both food items must have the same bracha rishona

2. After a blessing is made on the first item and it is eaten, you must eat the second food item within 30 minutes (some say 72 minutes). Otherwise, a new bracha must be recited on the second food item.

3. You must have intent to extend the first blessing to cover the second food item. This clause can be bypassed if the second food item is on the table at the time the original blessing is recited for the first food item.

Complicated stuff. But our students will get a lot of opportunity to rehearse these facts and will get a chance to put this concepts into practice later on this week.
