We extended our unit on the laws of zimun to include situations where various groups of people cannot see each other. The Mishna (Brachot 7:5) states that these disparate groups can forge one single group and perform the zimun, provided that they can see each other.
The same would apply in a case where the groups cannot see each other, but are served by one waiter/waitress. This provided the basis, in part, for allowing a zimun at a wedding, where guests seated at various locations throughout a dining hall can still forge one single group.
