Drawing on our current lessons from Chumash that highlight the importance of proper speech (Moshe claims to lack it), we designated today as a "Speak No Evil" day. Students are making a concerted effort to ensure that they speak only words that heal, not hurt (to borrow from Joseph Telushkin's brilliant work on the same subject).
We aren't exploring the nuanced laws of lashon harah per se - perhaps another time - but instead are focusing on making sure that we filter our words so that only the 'best' of what we have to say comes out.
(In Chumash, we explored three possible understandings of what Moshe meant when we claimed to have "poor speech" - ask your child about them!)
